Doctor Mehdi Mousavi earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Iran’s leading medical institution in March 2001. He started his career as a family doctor in rural area. Following his mandatory service in a rural area and working as a primary care doctor, he completed a residency in cardiology and internal medicine at Imam Khomeini Hospital, affiliated with Tehran University of Medical Sciences. He further specialized by completing a fellowship in interventional cardiology at Tehran Heart Center.
Doctor Mehdi Mousavi is a highly experienced physician with over 24 years of diverse clinical expertise, including family medicine, emergency care, internal medicine, and cardiology.
In 2021, while pursuing a Master of Family Medicine at McGill University, Montreal, Dr. Mousavi relocated to Saskatchewan, where he completed the Saskatchewan International Physician Practice Assessment (SIPPA) as part of his preparation to practice in Canada.
In April 2023, Dr. Mousavi successfully passed the Certification Examination in Family Medicine (CCFP) administered by the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC). He has gained over four years of Canadian clinical experience as a primary care doctor in rural Saskatchewan. During this time, as a family doctor, he provided comprehensive care across emergency departments, inpatient hospital settings, outpatient clinics, and long-term care facilities.
Dr Mousavi started practicing in North York and Richmond Hill Ontario from Aug 2024.
In addition to his clinical roles, Doctor Mousavi began his academic career with Islamic Azad University as an invited professor in September 2006. He later served as a part-time faculty member and Assistant Professor at Islamic Azad University in Shahrood, Iran. From September 2012 to May 2013, he was invited to join Imam Khomeini Hospital, Tehran University Of Medical Sciences, where he worked as both a clinician and an educational member of the cardiology team, contributing to the training of cardiology residents and interventional cardiology fellows.
In June 2013, Dr. Mousavi moved to Karaj—a city where he spent much of his youth, including his high school years—to serve as a faculty member and Assistant Professor at Alborz University of Medical Sciences.

After successfully completing the Certification in Family Medicine, Doctor Mousavi was appointed as an Assistant Professor and faculty member in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan in January 2024.
Dr. Mousavi is a seasoned academic and researcher with a Master of Family Medicine and a Diploma in Clinical Research in Experimental Medicine, both from McGill University, Montreal Canada.
He has authored 24 scientific medical journal publications and delivered 24 conference presentations.
His most recent publication, titled “Performance of Generative Pre-trained Transformers (GPTs) in the Certification Examination of the College of Family Physicians of Canada,” was completed in May 2024 during his tenure in Saskatchewan. This study reflects his continued engagement with medical research and innovation in clinical education.
Doctor Mehdi Mousavi has received several prestigious awards in recognition of his contributions to medical education, research, and knowledge dissemination.
During his residency at Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Dr. Mousavi was recognized as the Best Resident Researcher, earning the Survey Activities Award for his outstanding dedication to academic research and clinical inquiry.
In addition, Dr. Mousavi received the Distinguished Translator Award from the Ministry of Health and Medical Education for his exceptional translation of the textbook Anesthesia and Co-existing Disease to Farsi.
He was honored by Iran's Ministry of Health and Medical Education with the Author Award for Diagnosis and Treatment of Medical Emergencies in Iran, at Oct 2005.
